Blue Jays release former closer BJ Ryan

BJ Ryan’s time has a Blue Jay has come to an end as the club announced the release of their former closer earlier today. Ryan 33, was removed from the closers role earlier this season and had 1-1 record with a 6.53 ERA in 25 appearances. He was in the fourth year of a five year, 47 million dollar deal.

To replace Ryan on the roster the Jays have activated current closer Scott Downs from the disabled list.

Halladay and Hill are All-Stars

The Toronto Blue Jays will send a pair of representatives to St.Louis for next week’s All-Star Game as MLB announced that both Roy Halladay and Aaron Hill have been named to the 2009 AL All-Star team.

For Halladay it is his 6th All-Star appearance and this marks the first nod for Aaron Hill.

Richmond latest rotation injury

Scott Richmond has joined the growing list of injured starting pitchers for the Toronto Blue Jays. The 29-year-old right hander was placed on the 15-day-DL today with shoulder tendinitis.

Brett Cecil will take Richmond’s next start and Brad Mills has been recalled from Las Vegas to fill in his roster spot.

Dellucci up, Adams designated

The Toronto Blue Jays announced today that they have called up outfielder David Dellucci from the Las Vegas 51s. The 35-year-old Dellucci started the season with the Cleveland Indians before being released.

To clear a spot for Dellucci on the roster Toronto has designated former first rounder Russ Adams for assignment. The IF/OF went 4 for 20 in 8 games for the Blue Jays.

2002 first round draft pick Russ Adams will make his return to the Toronto Blue Jays roster after being recalled from Las Vegas. The utilityman was hitting .319 with 1HR and 9RBIs in 74 at bats for the Las Vegas 51s.

To clear room on the roster for Adams Toronto optioned utilityman Joe Inglett back to Triple A. Inglett burst onto the scene last year replacing the injured Aaron Hill at second base, but failed to break camp with the Jays this year and has been less than impressive during his time in Toronto.

Halladay, Downs and Janssen join growing DL list

Despite defeating the Philadelphia Phillies to earn their first interleague series win today was not a happy day for the Jays. Toronto sent 3 different pitchers to the 15- day-DL today.

To start the day Toronto announced that starter Casey Janssen has been sent to the DL with an inflamed throwing shoulder. To replace Janssen in the rotation the Blue Jays recalled lefty Brad Mills from Las Vegas.

Later in the day 2 more pitchers were added to the DL as Toronto ace Roy Halladay and closer Scott Downs were placed on the 15-day-DL. Downs sprained his left big toe Tuesday night in Philadelphia running out a grounder and Halladay has been out since June 12th with a right groin strain. No word yet on who will replace Downs and Halladay on the roster.

Dellucci signs with Blue Jays

Veteran outfielder David Dellucci has signed a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. Dellucci began the season with the Cleveland Indians but was released back on May 29th to clear room for younger players. He will head to Las Vegas to get some at bats in and shake off the rust.
