The news that Jays fans had been dreading became official today, righthander Shaun Marcum will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the 2009 season. Marcum left Tuesdays game vs the Orioles with tightness in his forearm and numbness in his shoulder which lead to a trip to the famous Dr. James Andrews.

The loss of Marcum will now put more pressure on the Jays to retain AJ Burnett beyond the end of this season.

The Toronto Blue Jays have sent RHP Shaun Marcum to Triple A Syracuse shortly after his poor outing against the Boston Red Sox. Marcum struggled with his control in the loss and only managed to work 3 2/3 innings. Toronto expects Marcum to return but wanted to give the youngster a little more time to straighten out his mechanics after a recent right elbow injury.

To replace Marcum in the rotation LHP John Parrish has been re-called from Syracuse. Parrish is 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA in 4 starts earlier this season for the Blue Jays.
