July 8, 2009

BJ Ryan’s time has a Blue Jay has come to an end as the club announced the release of their former closer earlier today. Ryan 33, was removed from the closers role earlier this season and had 1-1 record with a 6.53 ERA in 25 appearances. He was in the fourth year of a five year, 47 million dollar deal.

To replace Ryan on the roster the Jays have activated current closer Scott Downs from the disabled list.

Halladay, Downs and Janssen join growing DL list

June 18, 2009

Despite defeating the Philadelphia Phillies to earn their first interleague series win today was not a happy day for the Jays. Toronto sent 3 different pitchers to the 15- day-DL today.

To start the day Toronto announced that starter Casey Janssen has been sent to the DL with an inflamed throwing shoulder. To replace Janssen in the rotation the Blue Jays recalled lefty Brad Mills from Las Vegas.

Later in the day 2 more pitchers were added to the DL as Toronto ace Roy Halladay and closer Scott Downs were placed on the 15-day-DL. Downs sprained his left big toe Tuesday night in Philadelphia running out a grounder and Halladay has been out since June 12th with a right groin strain. No word yet on who will replace Downs and Halladay on the roster.
